Manchester City has announced the signing of striker Erling Haaland from German club Borussia Dortmund, according to a statement released by the club on Tuesday (May 10).
Manchester City is said to have activated Erling Haaland’s $60 million release clause, which works out to about £51 million at his current club Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga.
In a statement, Manchester City announced, “We have struck an agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of striker Erling Haaland to the Club on 1 July 2022.”

Pep Guardiola effectively confirmed the impending purchase of Haaland earlier this week, addressing it before City’s critical Premier League trip to Wolves.
Dortmund, meanwhile, issued an official statement on their website, stating that the move would have a “good impact” for the fiscal year 2022/23.
“Player Erling Haaland (“Player”) is going to join Manchester City Football Club Limited from Borussia Dortmund GmbH & Co. KGaA (“BVB”) (“Manchester City”). Today, all sides have agreed on the fundamentals. Contractual matters must still be arranged and recorded.
In a statement on Tuesday, Dortmund stated that “the execution of the transfer is also subject to correct and timely processing in line with the requirements of the FIFA Transfer Matching System (FIFA TMS).”
“The management anticipates a beneficial impact on the main profits statistics for the 2022/2023 financial year in the range of roughly EUR 35.0 million — 40.0 million with the realization of this transfer transaction,” it said.
