Masked suspect hits man with ax near Columbus Circle: Police.

COLUMBUS CIRCLE, Manhattan – A masked suspect with an ax attacked a man on a Manhattan street Monday night, police said Tuesday.

The suspect approached the 51-year-old victim on Broadway near Columbus Circle shortly after 10 p.m., according to the NYPD.

The suspect threatened to kill the victim and then hit him on the left arm with an ax, police said.

The suspect then fled to the 59th Street-Columbus Circle subway station.

The rescuers took the victim to a hospital in stable condition.

It was not immediately clear if there was a prior discussion between the victim and the suspect or if the attack was random.
