Mason Greenwood

The 20-year old was also arrested for assault after a report on social media.

The man was later arrested under suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill on Tuesday.

Manchester United previously said the forward will not be returning to matches or training

until next.

Greater Manchester Police said Greenwood was detained after the police “became aware of

online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical

violence.”

It was reported that magistrates granted an extension of time to allow him to remain in

custody until Wednesday.

Still, he has been released in the meantime instead of further investigation.

After the arrest of the striker, the video game creator EA Sports said Greenwood had been

taken off of FIFA products.

The report noted that he was removed from active squads at FIFA 22 and banned from

participating in the FIFA Ultimate Team pack and Ultimate Draft.

Nike earlier said that it had ended its association with the footballer.

“We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to monitor the

situation closely,” an official stated.

Greenwood, the player who played his Manchester United debut in March 2019, was signed

to a four-year deal in February of this year, following his way through the academy.

In a statement on Sunday afternoon, the organization announced they “did not condone

the violence of any kind” and that it had been informed of the allegations but will not comment

further until “facts have been established.”

In a statement released on Tuesday afternoon, the group announced that they “reiterates

its strong condemnation of violence of any kind.”
