Microsoft claims it stopped attempted hacks by Russian spies.
Microsoft Corporation announced on Thursday that Russian military agents attempted to hack into Ukrainian, European Union, and American targets.
The software firm said in a blog post that a group it dubbed “Strontium” was utilizing seven internet domains to spy on government bodies and think tanks in the EU and the US and Ukrainian institutions, including media organizations.
Any of the targets were not identified by name by Microsoft.
Strontium is Microsoft’s codename for a hacker squad affiliated with Russia’s military intelligence organization, Fancy Bear or APT28.
A message left with the Russian Embassy in Washington was not immediately returned.
Since Russian soldiers invaded Ukraine in February, the nation has been subjected to cyber efforts.
