Microsoft Interested in Buying Warner Bros Gaming Unit

Microsoft has expressed interest in buying the Warner Bros gaming unit, The Information reported Monday, citing two people familiar with the matter.

AT&T, the father of Warner Bros, was discussing the sale of its gaming division Interactive Entertainment, which owns the popular video game Mortal Kombat, for a deal that could be worth around $ 4 billion (roughly Rs. 29,958 crores), CNBC reported last month.

Microsoft and AT&T did not immediately respond to requests for comment on The Information. report.

In June, Microsoft said it was throwing in the towel on its Mixer live gaming platform and was partnering with Facebook to better compete with rivals like Amazon-owned Twitch. Microsoft Mixer will be closed on July 22, the tech giant said in a statement.

“It became apparent that the time it took to grow our own live streaming community to scale was out of the question with the vision and experiences that Microsoft and Xbox want to offer gamers now, so we have decided to shut down the Mixer operations and help transition the community to a new platform, “said the Mixer team.

Players will be encouraged to transition to Facebook Gaming, which has some 700 million people who play or watch games every month.

“We will work to transition the Mixer community in the coming weeks. Starting July 22, all Mixer sites and applications will redirect users to Facebook Gaming,” said Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, the gaming division. from Microsoft,
