After waking up with a “raspy voice” as his lone symptom, New York City Mayor Eric Adams tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, becoming one of the latest high-profile Gridiron dinner attendees to have the virus, according to a spokeswoman.

According to his spokesperson, Fabien Levy, Adams, 61, will cancel all of his public appearances for the rest of the week and start taking antiviral meds right once.

“He will continue to serve New Yorkers by working remotely while isolated,” the statement stated.

On Sunday, Adams celebrated his 100th day as mayor of the nation’s most populated city, which was once the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States. Last weekend, he was in Washington for a series of meetings and the Gridiron Club dinner on Saturday.

In recent days, the event, which is usually a highlight of the Washington social calendar, has been blamed for a rash of COVID-19 positive test results among high-ranking officials and politicians, including Attorney General Merrick Garland and Democratic Representatives Adam Schiff and Joaquin Castro.

According to the Washington Post on Saturday, 67 persons who attended the event tested positive.

According to her spokeswoman, Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi also tested positive for COVID-19 but is now asymptomatic. As a result, she didn’t show up for the occasion.
