Nitish Kumar to expand Bihar cabinet today

Today, August 16, 2022, Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, and his deputy, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, will enlarge their two-person cabinet.

It is anticipated that roughly 30 more members will be added from various ‘Mahagathbandhan’ constituencies. Up to 36 ministers, including the chief minister, may serve in the state cabinet. However, Nitish is anticipated to leave a few slots open for further growth.

According to sources, there has been an in-principle understanding that Kumar’s JD would come in second and Tejashwi’s RJD, now the biggest party in the state legislature will get the majority of cabinet positions (U).

According to reports, the swearing-in event would start at 11.30 AM at the Raj Bhavan in Patna, and Lalu Prasad Yadav, the leader of the RJD, may be invited.

Bihar cabinet expansion

The Yadav caste, the RJD’s main support base, may get several seats. According to reports, Tej Pratap Yadav, the oldest son of Lalu Prasad, may not be inducted.

Alok Mehta, the national general secretary, and MLA Sudhakar Singh, whose father Jagadanand Singh is the state president, are both expected to be appointed to cabinet positions.

On the other side, the JD(U) is anticipated to retain most of its cabinet members from the previous NDA administration, including Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Ashok Choudhary, and Bijendra Yadav, Shravan Kumar, and Leshi Singh.

Two of the three cabinet vacancies that Congress is expected to get will be filled on Tuesday, according to state in-charge Bhakt Charan Das.

According to rumors, Afaque Alam and Murari Gautam were hand-selected as part of the party’s plan to support a Dalit and a Muslim.

Santosh Suman, a member of the Hindustani Awam Morcha, is also set to return as a minister. The party started by his father, the former chief minister of Bihar, Jitan Ram Manhi, has four legislators and left the NDA in support of Nitish Kumar.

Sumit Kumar Singh, the lone Independent, is expected to be sworn in today. His late father, Narendra Singh, was a longtime friend of the chief minister. He was appointed to the cabinet during the previous administration.

BJP core committee in Bihar to meet in Delhi today

Meanwhile, JP Nadda, the BJP’s national president, is expected to attend a meeting of the party’s core committee in Bihar today in New Delhi.

According to reports, various topics raised by the state’s political unrest would be addressed during the scheduled conference.

Nadda may also brief the party leaders on the tactics the BJP would use going forward in the state where it has been unceremoniously deposed and is now up against a freshly constituted but possibly substantial “Mahagathbandhan.”

Last week, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced his departure from the NDA, alleging that the BJP attempted to divide his JD (U).

The “Mahagathbandhan,” which consists of the JD(U), RJD, Congress, and the Left, announced its support for Kumar and staked his claim to form a new government in response to his resignation.
