Pakistan PM Imran Khan meets Army Chief Bajwa to save his chair

Pakistan PM Imran Khan meets Army Chief Bajwa to save his chair.

On Friday, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan visited Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa amid a possible no-confidence move against his government.

The meeting is thought to have focused on recent political developments in Pakistan, with local media reporting that the plan could have included:

  • The upcoming Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) summit in Pakistan.
  • The ongoing unrest in Balochistan.
  • The upcoming no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

According to Capital TV, a Pakistani news channel, “the majority of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) officials are waiting for the conclusion of this conference; the outcome of this meeting would be vital among the ongoing political happenings in the country.”

The meeting is also being interpreted as an attempt by Imran Khan to regain favor with Pakistan’s establishment, notably the Pakistani Army, to save his administration.

The schism between Imran Khan and the Army establishment was exposed when the latter, in a profanity-laced address on March 11, defied Army Chief General Bajwa’s recommendation not to use insulting statements about Opposition figures.

“I was just talking to Gen Bajwa (Chief of the Pakistani Army) about not calling Fazl “diesel.”

However, I am not the one who says that. He’s been dubbed “Diesel” by the public. “According to reports, Khan said this about JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Meanwhile, 25 members of Imran Khan’s ruling party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), have taken sanctuary in the Sindh House in Islamabad and are generally suspected of rebelling against Khan.

According to Pakistani media, PTI workers reportedly smashed down the Sindh House’s gate and entered the building on Friday.

In the Sindh House, police detained PTI’s Faheem Khan and Attaullah Niazi, who was heading the group. Some of the mob’s workers have also been apprehended.

Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Maryam Nawaz remarked on Twitter that the federal government should “If it still has any sense of shame, it should return home.”

You will not be able to save the government, God willing, but if you still have any sense of shame, go home, “she sent out a tweet.

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leaders also spoke out against the incident. They claimed that their party members would have no choice but to round the PTI leaders’ home in retribution.
