PM Modi talks to European leaders

Modi spoke to several European leaders about the Ukraine crisis today, and he expressed his concern about the worsening situation and the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.

The PMO said he also reiterated India’s call for a cessation of hostilities and a return to talks.

This happened as the situation in Ukraine got worse. Modi talked to French President Emmanuel Macron, Polish President Andrzej Duda, and European Council President Charles Michel to discuss the situation.

Some shelling killed an Indian student as well.

PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron shared their concerns about the ongoing violence in Ukraine and the worsening humanitarian situation there, which they both thought was evil.

Mr. Modi welcomed the talks between Ukraine and Russia, and he said that it was essential to making sure that humanitarian aid and people could move freely.

In his remarks, the prime minister said that India has consistently called for an end to violence and a return to talks and diplomacy.

He said that India believes that respect for international law, the UN Charter, and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries are the foundations of the modern world order, the PMO said.

PM Modi also told Macron about India’s efforts to get its citizens out of the conflict areas and send urgent relief supplies, including medicine, to those who need them.

Mr. Modi thanked Duda for his help in getting Indian citizens out of Ukraine.

He also thanked him for letting Indian citizens from Ukraine into Poland without a visa.

He said that he was very grateful for the warm welcome and help that Polish citizens gave to Indian nationals during this challenging time, the PMO said.

Mr. Modi said that the two countries have always had a good relationship, and he remembered how Poland helped after the Gujarat earthquake in 2001.

He also talked about how the Maharaja of Jamnagar played an essential role in saving some Polish families and young orphans during the Second World War, the PMO said in an email.

Mr. Modi also told Duda that Union Minister V K Singh would be in Poland as his special envoy to help Indian citizens get out of the country.
