Punjab Government To Implement New NRI Policy: Minister

Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, a member of the Punjab Cabinet, said on Wednesday that the state government would introduce a new policy for NRIs to solve their difficulties adequately.

According to a formal statement, Mr. Dhaliwal presided over a meeting with top NRI department executives where they reviewed the draught of a new NRI policy with members of the NRI Commission, Punjab.

According to Mr. Dhaliwal, the Punjab government has started an initiative to reunite young NRI Punjabis with their heritage.

The government will also start a scheme to provide older NRI Punjabis free transportation to the state’s historical sites and places of worship.

According to the minister of NRI Affairs, attempts are being made to create NRI Lok Adalats that operate similarly to civil Lok Adalats to address their problems.

In these courts, he claimed, issues over property and marriage would be resolved immediately by mutual accord and given legal status.

Another significant decision made at the meeting was to ask Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to assign a Punjab Civil Services level official to serve as a nodal officer in each district to hear the concerns of the NRIs quickly.

It has been planned to establish a rule to stop “girdwari” changes without NRI approval to bring relief to NRIs since many incidences of encroachment on NRI lands.

Additionally, we agreed to hire a team of attorneys from the Advocate General’s office to represent the NRI Punjabis in court.

If necessary, NRIs would be able to seek legal help from these attorneys, he added.
