Ronaldo to miss Thailand leg of pre-season tour

Manchester United’s preseason trip to Thailand and Australia will not include Cristiano Ronaldo because the Portugal striker was allowed more time off to attend to a personal matter.

When Erik ten Hag, the new manager of United, welcomed the team’s foreign players to Carrington on Monday to begin preseason training, Ronaldo was not there.

The forward informed the team that he was attending to a family problem and skipped Thursday’s game.

Ronaldo will not be traveling with the team that departs for Bangkok on Friday, and it is unknown when he will rejoin United. They play Liverpool in Thailand on Tuesday before taking out for Australia.

Over the weekend, it became known that the 37-year-old had requested to leave Old Trafford because of his team’s dismal performance since his return in 2017.

United’s sixth-place Premier League performance prevented them from qualifying for the Champions League.

However, despite rumors that Chelsea and Napoli are interested, United says that Ronaldo will play for them this season.

“The Manchester United group that is supposed to leave on Friday for our pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia won’t include Cristiano Ronaldo. He has been given further time off to attend to a family matter, “A United spokesman stated to the Manchester Evening News.

Cristiano is not for sale and is still bound to Manchester United for another season.

Although Ronaldo was crowned the club’s Player of the Year and scored 24 goals in all competitions last season, United’s hunt for its first trophy since 2017 continued.
