Slovakia is deploying Patriot air defense system in fear of Russian Attack. 

PRAGUE: The Patriot air defense system has begun arriving in Slovakia from NATO partner nations. According to Slovakia’s defense minister, the deployment is expected to continue in the following days.

The system will be operated by German and Dutch troops and stationed at Sliac airport in central Slovakia to enable NATO’s eastern flank to be better protected.

The alliance has beefed up its defenses in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In Slovakia, which borders Ukraine, the Patriot system will be part of a new NATO battlegroup.

On Facebook, Defence Minister Jaroslav Nad stated, “I am glad to confirm that the first units in charge of deploying the Patriot air defense system are progressively arriving in Slovakia.”

The Patriot system, according to Nad, will complement rather than replace Slovakia’s Soviet-era S-300 system.

“The system will be temporarily deployed at the Sliac air force facility,” Nad stated, adding that “additional deployment places are being considered… so that the security umbrella covers the maximum feasible part of Slovak land.”

Last week, the minister stated that Slovakia is willing to hand over the S-300 to Ukraine if and when it receives a suitable replacement.

Due to its age, capabilities, and reliance on Russia, he underlined that Slovakia was searching for its S-300 replacement on Sunday.

Russia has warned Ukraine against receiving modern air defense systems and has threatened to strike Western weaponry deliveries.
