“I like that someone else thought my work was good. It didn’t matter how good or bad things were in different parts of my life. I always worked for the people, whether in the social or political world or when I was a (former) Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.” ANI

The senior politician was one of two opposition leaders nominated for the award on the eve of Republic Day when Congress was split over who should be in charge of the country. Some people in Congress didn’t like that he took the award.

Today, Mr. Azad slammed the critics, “People always want to know why these awards are given and who gets them. They ignore how the person worked and what they did to get this award. This award comes from the country.”
For two years, Mr. Azad and the other leaders who wrote to the party chief, Sonia Gandhi, have been trying to solve the problem of who should be in charge of the Congress party. Congress lost the election in five states where it did not do well. This has sparked a new debate about what happened.
Mr. Azad was given the Padma Bhushan award, the third-highest honor, for his work in Public Affairs. It’s one of the highest awards for people in India. Padma awards are given in many different fields and disciplines.
