United complete Lisandro Martinez signing from Ajax in £57m deal

Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, was eager to work with the 24-year-old player again after signing him for Ajax in 2019.

He signs a five-year deal with the team, keeping him at Old Trafford until 2027, with an additional year option.

Martinez remarked, “It’s an honor to join this fantastic football team.

“Now that I’m here, I’m going to push myself even more. I’ve worked so hard to get to this point.”

Martinez played for Newell’s Old Boys and Ajax before joining the Dutch team for £6.3 million in 2019. He made 120 appearances for Ajax while there.

Since making his senior debut in March 2019, he has earned seven appearances for Argentina and has participated once in the nation’s victorious Copa America campaign in 2021.

He stated that I’ve been fortunate enough to be a member of winning teams throughout my career, and I want to continue that at Manchester United.

“I truly think that, under this management and coaches, and along with my new team-mates, we can achieve it,” the player said. “There will be a lot of effort to get to that moment.”

Martinez worked with Ten Hag at Ajax, where he helped the team win the Dutch Cup in 2021 and the Eredivisie in 2021 and 2022.

In addition, he was Ajax’s player of the year in 2021–2022.

“He is a fighter, and I believe his supporters will respect him. He has a battling mentality and attitude,” Ten Hag added.

He injects positive aggression into the game. We need that.

However, he is skilled, has good ball control, and is left-footed.

“We are happy that he has decided to join Manchester United and we are looking forward to watching him grow further and assist the squad achieve the success we are striving for,” said United’s football director John Murtough.

The center defender is United’s third acquisition of the summer, after the free agent signings of Tyrell Malacia of the Netherlands and Christian Eriksen of Denmark.
