“My staff has begun contact tracing and testing of all those with whom I have come into contact over the last week.” Austin, 68, claimed that his vaccination was up to date and received a booster shot in October.

“The vaccines work and remain a medical requirement for the military for our military personnel. I will continue to urge everyone eligible for a booster to take one. It’s a matter of readiness,” he said.

In October, a different member of President Joe Biden Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, tested positive for COVID-19.
