decisions in Goa and Uttarakhand show about the BJP's strategy

On Monday, Pushkar Singh Dhami was named Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, and Pramod Sawant was named Chief Minister of Goa, even though his colleague Vishwajit Rane wanted the job. The BJP had hoped to keep all four Chief Ministers.

Observers say that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make a big-picture decision soon. The choice? “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.”

This move could be seen to keep the BJP’s Uttarakhand branch together and show that the state doesn’t need to have three Chief Ministers in four months.

He’s 46 years old and has to win in six months to become the youngest person in the state.

Dhami left his mark on Uttarakhand during the last six months, which was shown in the election results, says Rajnath Singh, one of his party’s “central observers.” He told reporters after the MLAs had chosen Dhami as the party’s leader.

In the past, the BJP has again put its trust in Mr. Dhami, who knows how to run a government. All of the MLAs agreed.

After 11 days of uncertainty, the BJP chose Pramod Sawant to run for re-election as governor of Goa. Vishwajit Rane, who had been seen as the frontrunner for the job, lost out.

With the BJP only having 20 seats in the 40-member Goa assembly, the support of independent MLAs kept Mr. Sawant from becoming the next leader, sources say.

Mr. Sawant has been given a raise because he overcame anti-incumbency and led the party to victory despite the resignations of some important people, including the son of former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.

During his time in charge of the state, the BJP had its second-best performance. It won 20 seats. In 2012, when Mr. Parrikar was in charge, the BJP won 21 seats.

During a meeting at Prime Minister Modi’s house on Sunday evening, both Mr. Dhami and Mr. Sawant got the final go-ahead. This was the latest in a string of high-powered meetings since they said the election results were announced on March 10.

It’s thought that the two-term MLA, like Mr. Dhami, is a friend of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the group that is the BJP’s primary ideological source.

Reflect how the central leadership of the party, led by PM Modi and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seemed to be in favor of young people, continuity, and the ability to perform under pressure. The 2024 Lok Sabha elections are coming up.

Although incumbent N Biren Singh had already won Manipur on Sunday, only Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had a clear path to victory ahead of him.

Will Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who is seen as close to PM Modi and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, keep his job even though he lost his seat this time.
