Why did Shikhar Dhawan miss out on the T20 World Cup squad?
We are adding Mahendra Singh Dhoni as a mentor to the Indian team at the upcoming T20 World Cup. Suppose Ravichandran Ashwin’s return to white-ball cricket after four years is a big surprise.
In that case, another surprise is the omission of Shikhar Dhawan from the World Cup team. A couple of months ago, Shikhar was sent as captain for a tour of Sri Lanka. But even then, the beak fell off! Peak performance was pretty good too.
According to the news in the Indian cricket community, the team did not want the first Delhi match. Instead, the team leadership vote went to Ishan Kisan.
From what was heard, the team did not want to increase the crowd in the opening space. Rohit Sharma is said to be there. Lokesh Rahul is there. If necessary, Virat Kohli can open it himself.
Virat has started in several games before. As a result, keeping Shikhar on the team will mean dominance by the same type of hitter.
Instead, think of someone in the middle order who can turn the tide of a match by playing a quick cameo.
In this case, the name of Ishan is thought. The team leadership vote goes to this young wicketkeeper from Jharkhand.
Ishan’s performance in the last IPL was excellent. He ran over five hundred with an average of 58.33.
The strike rate is close to one hundred and a half. In some matches, the strike rate was close to 200.
That’s right, Ishan will be sent to the World Cup as the second goalkeeper with Rishabh. Some board members have acknowledged that the lack of a summit is a bit regrettable.
Indian T20 World Cup squad:
Virat Kohli (Capt), Rohit Sharma (vc), KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohd Shami.
Standby players: Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar.
But they had nothing to do here. The team has to prioritize what it wants.
After being eliminated from the World Cup team, many are concerned about Shikhar’s future in the Indian team.
Similar thoughts are growing, and with a high-level hitter, he is Ajinkya Rahane. There has been a drought of batting runs throughout the tour of England. Good questions have started to arise about him.
The talks have started, Rahane has had many opportunities. Now we have to make a decision. The board, however, leaves the matter entirely in the hands of Captain Kohli.
That said, it is up to Kohli whether Rahane will play in the next series or not. But at the same time, the board has made it clear that Rahane will have to run this time.
Considering Mumbaikar’s track record, he may get one or two more testing opportunities as the benefit of the doubt.
But then? If the Indian Test team captain has to be eliminated if he can’t run, there will be nothing to be surprised about!
