Manchester United signed Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax

Manchester United paid Ajax an initial 95 million euros (£82 million) price to acquire Brazilian winger Antony.

The agreement, which might include add-ons worth up to 5 million euros (£4.3 million), is the fourth most costly in Premier League history.

The 22-year-old has agreed to a contract that runs through 2027, with an additional year’s option.

The opportunity to join one of the most prestigious clubs in the world at this point in my career is excellent, said Antony.

“I’m grateful to everyone who supported me, particularly my family, as well as to my coaches and team members, without whom I would not have succeeded.

“Erik ten Hag’s coaching at Ajax was ideal for me and my growth. I play my best football when he is teaching, and I am inspired by what he has shared with me about his goals and intentions for Manchester.

In 82 games for Ajax, Antony contributed 22 assists and 24 goals. In 2020, he transferred from Sao Paulo to the Dutch champions, where he played for Ten Hag.

Since making his international debut in October 2021, he has scored twice in nine appearances for Brazil and seven goals in 11 Champions League games for Ajax.

Paul Pogba was acquired by Manchester United from Juventus for a record-breaking £89 million in August 2016.

The striker joins his former Ajax teammate and defender Lisandro Martinez, midfielder Casemiro from Real Madrid, full-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord, and playmaker Christian Eriksen on a free transfer as United’s sixth summer additions.

While numerous players, including Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, Edinson Cavani, and Andreas Pereira departed, United spent more than £210 million in this transfer window to support new manager Ten Hag.
